Obituary of Kenneth Showers

Kenneth B. Showers, 83, formerly of State College, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Wynwood House, Centre Hall. Born January 24, 1931, in State College, he was the son of the late James A. and Meda P. Stone Showers. On July 19, 1952, he married Ruth E. Ripka, who preceded him in death on September 27, 2011. He is survived by one sister, Carolyn Schillings and her husband, Fred, of Huntingdon; one sister-in-law, Patsy Weaver of Florida; and one niece, Bonnie Brown of Centre Hall. Kenneth was a 1948 graduate of State College High School. He was a member of the Air National Guard from 1950 until 1957. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1953, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Centre Concrete as a truck driver. Kenneth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he sang on the church choir and served on many committees over the years. Visitation will be from 12 until 1 p.m., on Monday, February 24, 2014, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 277 West Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., at the church, with Spence Garvin and the Reverend Robert Rohrbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
