Obituary of Carl Sichler
Carl L. Sichler, 77, of Boalsburg, passed away on February 20, 2014, at home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Born March 20, 1936, in Kingston, PA, he was the son of the late Otto and Mary Novojosky Sichler. On June 27, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Kay Rowley, who survives.
Carl was a 1954 graduate of Beaumont High School where he was class president and played basketball and baseball. In 1956, he came to State College to work as a business machine technician for Borroughs Corporation and never left. He was a dedicated employee who answered his clients' calls night and day for more than 40 years.
Carl's days were always full. He spent countless hours with his three children coaching youth baseball and basketball and never turned down a game of catch and pepper, or ping pong. He was always there for his family and his community. He helped his wife with her porcelain business and the Harris Township Lions over many years.
After retirement, he continued to unselfishly help others. You could always count on Carl to fix anything in need of repair whether it belonged to a relative, neighbor or stranger. He enthusiastically attended his grandchildren's athletic events and musical and theatrical performances. Granddad loved spending time with his seven grandchildren whether it was playing games, rocking them to sleep or taking them on tractor rides. Carl loved spending time outside and was the field caretaker for State College Little League for 39 years. He was honored by the league in 2009 with the naming of Sichler field.
Also surviving are three children, C. J. Sichler and his wife, Cheryl, of State College, Nancy L Moerschbacher and her husband, Frank, of Bellefonte and Amy S. Haffner and her husband, Steve, of State College; two sisters, Mary Ellen Sichler of Beaumont and Ruth Zorzi and Phil Jennings, of Wilmington, DE; two brothers, John Sichler and his wife, Eileen, of Beaumont and Edmund Sichler of Harvey's Lake; seven grandchildren, Morgan and Calvin Sichler, Zach and Dylan Moerschbacher and Jack, Carly and Pete Haffner. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Sichler.
