Although I had never met Mr. Olson, we had communicated over the past several years in response to invitations to the Covington Alumni Banquet. Both he and I were looking forward to his presence this year--finally. I am sorry he didn't get "home" for this 100th and last Banquet.

My condolences to all who knew and loved Duane. He was an extraordinary, dynamic genius with an interest in practically everything. He was great to be around and I am thankful for every moment that we spent including the verbal opposition, for that would end in laughter. He taught me many things but the one that stands out in my head and always will. He said "Bubba, if you don't do nothing, you won't make any mistakes". Oddly and fortunately, that is how I have landed for the rest of my days. May God mend our hearts quickly and turn the tears to laughter as he would have it.Sincerely, Bubba

In the business that we are in we meet hundreds of people in a years time but I am sure that no one here will forget the pleasure they got from speaking to Mr. Olson. He was a delight and he most certainly had a wealth of knowledge and stories to tell. We are sorry for your loss and are grateful that we had the opportunity to meet such a unique inspired individual.
With all the best,

Duane and Elaine Olson were surrogate parents in FL to all the friends who came-south to the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area to visit. From picnics/barbeques at Crandon Park on Key Biscayne, not-far from banker Bebe Roboso's home, where Richard Nixon would stay while he was president (I am sure Duane loved the irony in sharing the island with them), to visiting any of the homes Duane occupied, where friends of the Olsons were always welcome. There were more stories about 'life in South Spencerport' than you had time to hear, and they all had Duane in them in some capacity. A big guy with a big heart, always full of optimism, and who educated himself on many fronts, from jazz to constitutional law, Duane Olson was an unforgettable character who rolled with the punches, and always made the best of whatever came his way, even if it took years. About the only time I ever saw him short on patience was when he played euchre, because he expected that anyone who shared the table with him was there to engage in a fast-paced game, with skill and speed. From our family to his, our condolences about losing a former neighbor, a friend, and a true original character.

I am so sorry to learn of Duane's death. Although I never met him personally, I was honored to play a small part in helping him regain his liberty and am so glad that he has had time to spend with his family these past few years. But what a very sad loss. My heart goes out to all of his family.

I have only known Duane for about six weeks but what an amazing gift he was. I will miss his friendship and conversation and the wonderful videos he shared on nature and talented performers he had discovered. He volunteered to Emicee my granddaughter Emma and friend Alexanders' Jazz Performance here in March and couldn't have been sweeter or more encouraging to them. Be at Peace, Friend!

Duane was truly one of the kind and when you were around him there was always a smile inside. Few people will ever be as honest about who they are and as passionate about the changes that need to be made to make our system of governance a better one. I agree with everything said about him in the eulogy. When you were around Duane you never doubted that humor and a sense of optimism were a part of the conversation.
