Obituary of Yiqiang Shen

Yiqiang (Charles) Shen, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville after a one year battle with stomach cancer. He was born May 1, 1931 in Wuxian City, Jiangsu, China to Zezheng Shen and Mingzhen Chen. He married Guihua (Joy) Yu on Aug. 29, 1961 in Beijing, China. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Polly Yijun Voltz (James), of Bellefonte, and Xin Shen (Baochun Li), of Tianjin, China, one son, Qing Shen, (Wenfeng Sun) of Landenberg, PA, and four grandsons. Also surviving in China are one brother, Yigang Shen, and one sister, Yixian Shen. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Yiqin, Yixiao, and Yijian Shen. Yiqiang graduated from Zhejiang University in China with a degree in Civil Engineering. For many years, he oversaw the construction design of railroad buildings and train stations which required him to live in various places throughout Sichuan Province, China. In 1978, he finally settled down in Tianjin, China until he immigrated to State College, PA, in 2007. He became a Christian believer and was baptized in 1997. Memorial Services will be held at the State College Chinese Alliance Church, where he was a devoted member, on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3 pm.
