Obituary of Joseph Ring

Joseph Daniel Ring "DAN" Age 73 of Port Matilda, died May 4th 2014 at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte. Born June 2, 1940 in Baltimore, Md, son of the late Joseph Edward and Ann DeSalles Ring. On June 17, 1961 in Ellicott City, Md., he married Nancy Pfeiffer who survives. Dan Graduated from Mt St. Joseph's High School in Catonsville, in 1958. While at Mt. St. Joseph's he played varsity football and earned All Maryland Honors. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1962. While working at Fort Meade Maryland he attended George Washington University towards his Masters in Computer Science. Dan moved his family to Florida where he worked for Harris Corporation and finished his class work at Florida Institute of Technoloy. While in Florida he enjoyed boating, fishing and scuba diving. In 1975 he began working for HRB Singer in State College now known as Raytheon. After retiring from Raytheonan served as a Patton Township Supervisor from 1998 thru 2005. Dan enjoyed golfing and traveling, and has been a member of Centre Hills Country Club since 1978. Anther of Dan's great joys and accomplishments was woodworking. He designed and built many wonderful treasures amily and friends over the years. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Daniel Ring and his wife Kimberly, of Port Matilda, Thomas Ring and his wife Dawn Daugherty, of Bellefonte, two brothers, James A. Ring and his wife Merita Hopkins, of Boston, MA, and Michael Ring and his wife Jackie, of Windsor, Co, three grandchildren, Casey, Savannah and Thomas Ring, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson Kenneth Edward Ring on January 11, 2010. Visitation will be on Friday 1-3 and 6-8 Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 10 am at Koch's with Father Charles Amershek of Good Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the State College Area Food Bank.
