Obituary of David Olmsted
David John Olmsted, formerly of Nutley, NJ and Vero Beach, FL, died peacefully on June 7th, 2014 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte, PA at the age of 74.
Born on August 18, 1939 in Kearny, NJ, he was the only son of the late Lawrence J. Olmsted and Jane Carberry. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. David is survived by his wife Carol Olmsted of State College, PA and his children, Lauren Kramer and her husband Mark of State College, PA; Kristy Koelle and her husband Dave of State College, PA; David Olmsted of Camp Hill, PA; Kimberly Olmsted of Camp Hill, PA; and Jonathan Olmsted and his wife Julie of South Plainfield, NJ. He is also survived by his 9 loving grandchildren Alyssa, Dylan, Caitlyn, Camden, Nicholas, Cameron, Jaxen, Jet and Jaze. Additionally, David is survived by his sister Patricia Robbins and her husband Warren of Spring Lake Heights, NJ.
David was a 1957 graduate of Rutherford High School and then earned a Bachelor's degree in Business from Fairleigh Dickenson University. Prior to attending college, David served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1961. David then worked for over 30 years as an investment advisor for Centurion Capital Management Company in Nutley, NJ before retiring in 2001 and moving to Vero Beach, FL.
David, also known as "Mr. O", loved sports and was a huge fan of watching his children and grandchildren compete. David was a youth coach in Nutley for over 15 years and many who played on one of his teams knows how truly passionate he was about competition on and off the field. When not watching or coaching sports, David loved collecting sports memorabilia, eating sushi, going to the racetrack and playing the lottery.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00pm at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Rutherford, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in David's honor. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
