Obituary of Charles Broehl
Charles "Chuck" Rush Broehl, 90, of State College, formerly of Tucson, AZ, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Atrium at The Village at Penn State. Born July 3, 1923, in Peoria, IL, he was the son of the late Wayne G. Broehl, Sr. and Dimple Jenna Rush Broehl. On August 23, 1946, Charles married Patricia Rindfuss in Peoria, IL. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa German and husband, Gregory of Pine Grove Mills; granddaughters, Sarah Curtiss and husband, Caleb; Elizabeth German, and Julia German; great-grandson, Charles Douglas Curtiss; daughter-in-law, Dana Broehl of Wisconsin; and sister-in-law, Jean Broehl of New Hampshire. Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Broehl; two sons, Christopher Broehl and Douglas Broehl; and brother, Wayne G. Broehl, Jr. Chuck earned a Bachelor's of Arts from the University of Illinois in 1948 after returning from serving as a lieutenant in World War II. He earned a place on the Bronze Tablet reserved for the highest of scholars. Chuck was employed in advertising for 35 years until his retirement. Chuck, or "Buzz", as his family called him, was an artist, and his art and thirst for knowledge are his legacies, along with his love for his family. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
