Obituary of Joan Wood

Joan M. Wood, 81, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 in the Atrium at the Village at Penn State. She was the daughter of John and Kathryn Maher of Abington, PA. In 1955 she married Chuck A. Wood who survives in State College. Also surviving are three children, Kathy Kopnisky and her husband, Jack, of Mah Wah, NJ, Chip Wood of Glen Allen, VA and Lizabeth Haslett and her husband, Jim, of Ashhourn, VA; two brothers, Jack Maher and Paul Maher; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Joan graduated from Penn State in 1954 in Elementary Education. She taught many years throughout Pennsylvania at various schools. Joan looked forward to volunteering at the hospital and being active throughout the community. She was an avid bridge player and golfer and loved spending time with her family. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in The Lions Den at the Village at Penn State on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 2:00pm.
