Obituary of Richard Anthony
Richard Gable Anthony, 91, of State College, died Monday, September 22, 2014, peacefully at his home.
Born November 21, 1922 in Mt. Carmel, PA, he was the son of the late Harold Leroy and Margaret Gable Anthony. He married Margaret Jane Jones, on June 29, 1949, who preceded him in death on March 1, 2003.
He is survived by three children: Margaret L. Anthony and her husband, Steve Derrick, of State College, PA, Craig T. Anthony and his wife, Kate, of Port Matilda, PA, David F. Anthony and his wife, Kelly, of Phoenixville, PA, and four grandchildren, Katelyn, Kelly, Michael and Jessica Anthony, all of Phoenixville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Anthony and two brothers, William and Harold L. Anthony, Jr.
Richard graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1940 and then joined the United States Army. While in the Army, he briefly attended Slippery Rock University, before being called to join the infantry to serve in World War II. In 1986 he retired after forty years employed as a welder with Westinghouse Electric Company in Lester, PA.
He was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church and the Moose Lodge, Shamokin Chapter. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed traveling. He also enjoyed ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Christmas time.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College with Pastor Timothy Guyer officiating.
Burial will be private, in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shenandoah, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to your local Salvation Army, in memory of Richard G. Anthony.
