Obituary of Sophia Westernik

Sophia Westernik, 85, of State College, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born August 12, 1929 in South River, NJ, she was the daughter of Harold and Tatiana Kartushavich Wladyko. She married Leo Westernik, on July 24, 1950, who preceded her in death on December 17, 2006. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Westernik and his wife, Joan, of State College, Gregory Westernik, of Burke, VA, three grandchildren, Stephen Westernik and his wife, Tatiana, of Fairfax, VA, Kristina Westernik, of Fairfax, VA and Rachel Westernik, of Washington D.C. and one great grandson, Maksim. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Westernik in 2008. Sophia was employed with Brodsky & Sons, South River, NJ and Quaker Oats in New Brunswick, NJ. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, South River, NJ and is presently a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in State College. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. A Trisagion service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 119 S. Sparks St., State College with the Reverend John Reeves officiating. Burial will be in Thornrose cemetery, Staunton, VA.
