Obituary of Paul Mierley
Paul A. Mierley, 90, of State College, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family after a struggle with Alzheimer's, Thursday, December 11, 2014.
Paul was born September 2, 1924 in Altoona. He was the son of the late Doyle L. and Hazel C. Schell Mierley.
On October 8th, 1970 he married Mary K. Garman who survives at home. They were married for 44 years. He is survived by Margo T. Clouser of Boalsburg and her husband, Brian of Boalsburg, Heather M. Rainear and her husband, Chas of Carversville and David L. Mierley and his wife, Angie of Bellefonte; six grandchildren Jennifer, Tyler, Paige, Marissa, Marin and Matthew and seven great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Anne Mierley and a brother, Robert Mierley.
Paul was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School and known for his abilities on the basketball court.
After graduation, Paul joined the army where he proudly served his country during World War II stationed in the Philippines for three years.
Upon discharge from the Army Paul, his brother and his father formed Mierley Motors in Altoona where they ran a successful franchise for 55 years. Paul formed Mierly-Volkswagen- Audi-Isuzu in 1970 which he operated until his retirement in 1990.
He was member of the Elks, the Shriners, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. As a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, Paul enjoyed over fifty years of cheering the Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoons in Beaver Stadium.
Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his friends and family. Of his many travels, a trip to Alaska was among his favorite memories.
Most of all Paul was dedicated to his family and was a devoted husband.
Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m., on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., on Monday, December 15, 2014 at the funeral home, with the Pastor Brent Book officiating.
Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
