As Frank certainly would know, the historian Herodotus reminded us that, although a man might feel fortunate -- even lucky -- during his life, we can "Count no man happy until we know his end." And, so, Frank and, indeed, we ourselves had the great fortune to benefit from his principled action in social justice, his courageous and unwavering push of truth in front of those in authority, and his thoughtful friendship. We read in his obituary that "he passed...at his home" that "He will be missed by all who loved him." I believe, then, we can call him "happy" as Herodotus reserved the term. Frank was matanat hashem (God's gift) to us all.

Dear Ruth and Family, My deepest sympathy to you all at this time of loss. I think of Frank as a caring, thoughtful person with a close family. His students were his extended family. I am very grateful to Frank for his encouragement and support throughout my graduate study. Frank communicated with all people with care and concern. He made us all feel worthy!!
