Dear Mardy and Family,
Allow me to express my condolences (and those of my wife, Patty) on the passing of Mark. We truly admired him.
I first met Mark in 1978, and soon became an admirer of his, both professionally and personally. He and I were both interested in energy use in agriculture, and he had a wonderful way of cutting to the chase to teach about energy and food production systems. He was a preservationist, a conservationist, and an environmentalist all wrapped into one, which are traits more should ascribe to.
I learned a great deal from Mark, and will never forget him. He was a kind person, and above all else, he was a gentleman.
Sincerely,
James W. Garthe
