Obituary of Marie Turner

Marie Voorhees Turner, best known as "Mimzi", 91, died peacefully Friday evening at Elmcroft of State College. She was born in Syracuse, NY, daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude (Suydam) Voorhees. Mimzi married Ernest F. Turner "Bud" on 26 of June 1943 and is survived by her adult children Timothy R. Turner (Greta) of Alum Creek, WV, John R. Turner of Williamsport, MD and Anne Turner Krill (William) of Hollidaysburg as well as grandchildren Eric Turner, Joshua Turner Burr, Crystal Roberts, Randy Massey, Gary Turner, Jennifer Turner, Andrew Krill, and Tyler Krill. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Mark Taylor, Shelly Taylor Houis, Christopher V. Taylor, and Rebecca L. Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Barbara Voorhees Taylor and brother-in-law George Taylor. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In her younger days she was an avid horse woman and taught horseback riding lessons. She graduated from Syracuse University with a BA and West Virginia University with an MSW. Mimzi retired from Delaware County Children & Youth Services in Media, PA were she was supervisor of the foster care department. She was also a breast cancer survivor and lost her battle with dementia. Mimzi loved animals, birdwatching and the beach. She continues to help people with the donation of her body for medical students. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
