Obituary of Kenneth Hertzog
Kenneth C. Hertzog, 84, of State College, died on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born October 21, 1930 in Reading, he was the son of Marion and Paula Hertzog. Ken married Phyllis Ripka on April 27, 1958, who survives at home.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years and 9 months, Phyllis; son, Ronald W. Hertzog and wife, Patty; granddaughter, Trisha Lorraine Klingler, and her husband, Matthew and grandson, Dan Despot and his wife, Cassie, one great-grandson, Jackson Despot; half-sisters daughter, Helen Morris, of Georgia, and half-sister Kathryn Eyrich, of Reading.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Hertzog and Walter Hertzog and an uncle, Henry Christan.
Ken graduated from Oley High School in 1948. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, from 1952 until 1954. After which, Ken attended Penn State University where he received his bachelor degree in accounting in 1958. Ken worked as an accountant for Rockview State Penitentiary, retiring as the financial business manager in 1991, after working there for 33 years.
He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ in State College and American Legion Post 245; he was a former member of the VFW Post 321.
Ken enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He was an excellent bowler and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be from 5:00p.m until 8:00p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Faith United Church of Christ, 300 East College Avenue, State College, with Rev. Monica Dawkins-Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
