Obituary of Alfred Getson

Alfred J. "Al" Getson, 55, of State College, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at his home. Alfred was born on April 30, 1959 in the small town of Duryea in north-eastern Pennsylvania to Alfred R. and Monica Mary Bulavich Getson. Alfred Getson was set up on a blind date for his senior prom with Linda Sauers, and four and half years later on October 2, 1981 they married. Alfred received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Wilkes College in 1982. He then worked as a test engineer at the Tobyhanna Army Depot for seven years before taking on the very important job of stay-at-home dad: homeschooling his two daughters Sara and Charlotte. He enjoyed taking photographs, hunting for mushrooms and traveling especially with his beloved family. In addition, Alfred was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and the State College Catholic Home-Schoolers. Alfred is survived by his wife of 33 years and his two daughters. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. Burial will be in Spring Creek Presbyterian Cemetery.
