Obituary of A. Fogelsanger

A. Scott Fogelsanger, 72, of Port Matilda, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at home. Scott was born on November 24, 1942 in Chambersburg, the son of the late Arthur Beattie and Helen Pauline Shoemaker Fogelsanger. He was married to the former Pauline Chojnowski, who survives. In addition to his wife, he was the loving father of his eight children, Bob Fogelsanger and wife, Connie of State College, Kathleen Morehead and husband, Rolfe of American Fork, UT, Brint Dietrich and wife, Kim of Bountiful, UT, Adam Fogelsanger and partner, Steven Korkus of State College, Shane Fogelsanger and partner, Darby Iaria of Willsboro, NY, Scotia Fogelsanger of Boalsburg, Anastatia Fogelsanger and Lauren Fogelsanger of Port Matilda. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Beattie-Moss of State College, sixteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five nephews, four nieces and many cousins. The family moved to State College in 1946, where his father became a partner in Balfurd Cleaners. Scott graduated from State College Area High School in 1961, where he lettered in football and golf. He started working for the family business his sophomore year in high school, then went onto trade school and kept current in the industry through additional trainings, cost groups and conventions. Since taking full ownership of the business after his father's death in 1980, the company has grown considerably under his leadership, and that of his son and eventual partner, Bob, moving beyond a simple laundry, dry cleaning and uniform rental business, to include a large healthcare and linen supply business, as well as fire restoration services. His skillful planning led to the acquisition and expansion of Balfurd's present-day industrial plant for healthcare and linen supply in Tipton. Because of his commitment to community, Balfurd became one of the first Pennsylvania drycleaners to adopt the GreenEarth drycleaning process, replacing petroleum-based solvents with non-toxic, odor-free liquid silicone, over 10 years ago. Scott was well respected in his industry across the country. His company has been involved in capital campaigns for the Bryce Jordan Center, Schlow Memorial Library and Mount Nittany Medical Center. Personally and professionally, Scott has supported many charities and programs over the years, including Easter Seals of Central Pennsylvania, Special Olympics Centre County and Pennsylvania, Penn State Football and Basketball, State College Girls Basketball Boosters, AAU Running Rebs Basketball, State College Hoops, Reading is Fundamental (RIF), Centre County Soccer Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, Girl Scouts, Centre County Down Syndrome Society, and State College Kiwanis Aktion Club. In addition to the family business, he was also owner of Deer Pond Farm, where he raised Black Simmental beef cattle and various other livestock for almost 30 years. He enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, running and working out, riding his Harley and various farm vehicles, farm chores and projects, traveling, but mostly spending time with his beloved immediate and extended family and close friends. Scott has made a positive difference in the lives of countless people and will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held from noon-3:00PM and 5:00-8:00PM on Friday, February 13th , 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. A funeral service will be at 11:00AM on Saturday, February 14th, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home with Celebrant Jackie Hook officiating. Burial will be alongside Scott's parents in the Spring Creek Cemetery at the family's convenience. We are grateful for the support of our family and friends, as well as the staff of the Shaner Cancer Center, Mount Nittany Medical Center, Geisinger of State College and Danville and the Home Nursing Agency Hospice for his recent care. Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Centre County Chapter, PO Box 10465, State College, PA 16805. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.kochfuner
