Obituary of Greta Suhr

Greta V. Suhr, 87, of State College, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Foxdale Village, State College. Born on September 27, 1927 in Uxbridge, England, she was the daughter of the late James S. and Mona Robinson Booth. On September 2, 1961, in Surrey, England, she married Ian Andrews, who died in 1984. In 1986, while on holiday at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Greta met Norman H. Suhr, and on November 6, 1987, they married in Cape Town, South Africa. Thereafter, Greta moved to State College with Norman, where they have lived for the past 27 years. Greta is survived by her husband, Norman, as well as her two children, Alison Willetts of Cape Town, South Africa and Neil Andrews and his wife, Natalie, of Johannesburg, South Africa; four step-children, Phillip N. Suhr and his wife, Debra, of Fernandina Beach, FL, Marilyn E. Wood and her husband, Jerry, of South Bend, IN, Jeffrey L. Suhr of Rockville, MD and Charles M. Suhr and his wife, Amy, of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren in South Africa; and twelve step-grandchildren scattered across the United States. Greta served in the Women's Royal Army Corps for the British Army from 1945 until 1948 serving in Egypt and Italy. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling, gardening, corresponding and knitting. A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, State College, with Reverend Charles Ugo officiating. Interment will be at Centre County Memorial Park following the service. Immediately following the burial, friends are invited to come to the Ramada Inn, 1450 South Atherton Street, State College, for a light luncheon and time of fellowship. Memorial contribution may be made to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801. The family would like to thank the loving care that the nursing staff at Foxdale provided to Greta over her stay in Darlington. She passed away after a well-fought battle with Parkinson's disease.
