Obituary of Betty Kleckner

Betty Kleckner, 90, of Warriors Mark, formerly of Sunbury, PA and Akron, OH, died Monday, March 9, 2015 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. Born September 12, 1924 in Turbotville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Alice (Snyder) and Edward Plotts, Sr. She married David H. Kleckner on March 6, 1954, and was preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter Michelle Davette, grandson Brandon McDonough, and sister Grace Menges. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Timothy Howerter of Richmond, VA and Pamela and Terrence McDonough of State College, one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Hilary Kleckner of Warriors Mark, two grandchildren, Dr. Justin Howerter and his fiancée Dr. Stephanie Snyder and Dr. Megan Dice and her husband Tyler Dice, sister Helen Michaels of Lemoyne, and brother Edward Plotts, Jr. of Sunbury. Betty graduated from Turbotville High School and The Goodwin College of Business. She lived in Akron, Ohio for many years. She and her husband owned Castle Beverage Company and Betty also worked as a bookkeeper for several Akron businesses. After moving to Sunbury, she served on the Grace Lutheran Church council and as church treasurer. She was treasurer of the Sunbury Business and Professional Women's Club, and a member of the Senior Action Center, Cedar Aid, and the local AARP. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #506, holding the office of treasurer. She retired from the Sunbury City Treasurer's office. After moving to State College, Betty joined Grace Lutheran Church on South Garner Street, and became an active member of the State College Women's Welcome Club. When her children were young, Betty served as Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was an avid reader and loved working in her flower gardens. She loved watching hockey games with her son whom she adored. Betty loved to travel, visiting Europe, the Caribbean, Nova Scotia, Alaska, and numerous states after her retirement. Betty truly loved life. A child of the Great Depression, she dedicated herself to giving her children and grandchildren myriad educational opportunities and life experiences. A caring and compassionate person, Betty set the barre high in her generosity to her family and those in need, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her home—filled with love, fun, and laughter—was always open to family and friends. Of all her accomplishments, Betty was most proud of her children and grandchildren. A woman of strong faith, Betty believed in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and was assured of the beauty and peace that awaited her after she passed from this earth. She leaves her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S.
