Obituary of Robert Coughlin

Robert D. Coughlin, 87, of State College, died Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Foxdale Village. Born Sept. 19, 1923, in Bridgeport, Conn., he was a son of the late Dennis William and Agnes Kane Coughlin. He married Elizabeth Shamey, who preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 2004. He is survived by three children, Gary R. Coughlin and his wife, Esther, of Cleveland, Ohio, William D. Coughlin and his wife, Linda, of Berwick, and Sheri C. Ford and her husband, Martin, of Clifton, Va., nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Robert earned his Bachelor's Degree in marketing from the Wharton School of Business. He was the Director of Systems and Procedures at Penn State for 29 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He was also a member of the State College Elks B.P.O.E #1600 and a volunteer at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Services will be private.
