Obituary of Janos Koltay
Janos Koltay, 76, of State College, died Friday, March 20, 2015, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born August 30, 1938 in Vasasszonyfa, Hungary, he was the son of Jozsef and Ilona Biró Koltay. Janos married Cheryl Dorleen Faust, on February 16, 1973 in Tyrone, who survives at home.
He is also survived by three children, Wendy Hersick of Aliso Viejo, CA, Kristina Kinton and husband, Damon, of Orlando, FL, and John Koltay of Bellefonte; his beloved grandchildren, Zachary and Sophie Hersick, Ian and Amelia Kinton, and Connor and Chloe Koltay; three siblings, Rozaliá Poór, Ilona Katavics, Magda Koltay, and his nieces and nephews, all residing in Hungary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jozsef Koltay, of Hungary.
Janos was owner and operator of Koltay Homes and Westbrier Incorporated in State College.
He came to the United States in 1958 and through hard work and perseverance built a successful business. He truly believed the U.S. was the land of opportunity. Outside of work, Janos enjoyed cooking, especially preparing Hungarian dishes for his office staff and crew, gardening, and playing cards with his poker buddies. He had a particular passion for trees, planting over 3000 himself.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, with the Reverend Andrew Morgan officiating.
Interment will be in private.
In lieu of memorial contributions, the family requests that friends and family plant a tree in his honor.
