Dear Uncle Russell, Thank you for your gifts to our Country as a Soldier. In the absence of my Dad, you reached out to me personally and taught me much about life which otherwise I may not have learned. I will carry those lessons with me for life and in your memory, I will share them with others as long as I live - Charles, Jr.

Dear Aunt Jeannie, I thank you for all that you have done to give life to Uncle Russell. You have made great sacrifices and I know you mourn deeply, as do we. He will live in our hearts for eternity. In the absence of my Dad, Uncle Russell, and you Aunt Jeannie, provided me and my family with loving family contact we may not have had without you. Those times are with us forever and will be shared in your honor with others at every opportunity during the rest of our lives. Charles, Jr., Joanie, and Family

While I did not have the pleasure of knowing Russell, I have the privilege to work with his grandson, Travis. I can certainly see where Travis received his own inspiration for performing good works in life! Russell clearly was a man of integrity and honor. My heartfelt sympathy to the family. God's blessings and peace to all of you--

Much love and heartfelt prayers to you, Aunt Jeannie, and to the whole family. I've always dearly loved Uncle Russell. I have fond memories of the terrific letters he used to send our family, carefully typed, well written, and full of funny anecdotes. It was always a good day when we got one - something we would share and read aloud. And when we all got together, everyone would be laughing and having a great time: my parents were happy, and Jo and Vic and I were, too. It's no small thing to make people laugh, and Uncle Russell did that in spades. At the same time, he was very obviously a man of depth, intelligence and insight. Moreover, he had the integrity and strength of character to step into my dad's life after his own father died. Dad always says, with fondness and tenderness, that Uncle Russell was like a father to him, and that he taught him so much. I credit my dad's good character, in large part, to Uncle Russell. May he rest in peace and greet us all again in heaven!

Having worked with son Rodney at Letterkenny Army Depot one can easily surmise what the Senior Mr.Gettig was like - an honorable appreciative of friends, family and his country, with a great sense of humor. I am happy you had so many years together Mrs. Gettig and I thank your husband for his service and I thank you for being the woman standing behind this good man....may he rest in peace!

So very sorry to hear of passing of Mr. Gettig. So many memories of his perfectly groomed yard and playing with Rodney, Carol and David around the Gettig household. Recall finding my youngest daughter, Maddie sitting at the kitchen table next to Mr. Gettig with a big smile on his face saying that she just invited herself to Sunday dinner. Thank you Mr and Mrs Gettig for all the happy times! Mr. Gettig will be very missed by all and West Main Street will not be the same.
