Our theme this month is “Grounded Grieving.” I love the word ground and its many derivatives. The very ground we live on; grounding ourselves and going deep within; being grounded by our beliefs; an object that makes a grounded electrical connection with the Earth; and the grounding practice of physically touching the Earth with a part of our body. My husband and I ground with our bare feet on the Earth for twenty minutes every day. (Don’t worry, in the winter we cover our spot with a plastic lid to keep the snow off and then cover our feet with blankets.) This may sound odd, but studies show it has an effect on inflammation, wound healing, improving immune systems, and recharging our bodies’ defense systems. During our grounding, it feels to me like the Earth is both giving nourishment to me and taking stress from me. Grounded grieving is about finding ways to both nourish ourselves and release some of our pain when we’re grieving. We have a ground inside ourselves and outside ourselves that supports us. Let’s talk more about this this month.
