We will certainly miss Jack, a friend from our Costa Rica days with Chet and Martha Eastep. He was a fine gentleman with a wealth of knowledge. Our experiences with him and Helen are recorded in our Book, "Jungle Paradise, Almost- Our Adventures in Costa Rica."

To all the Hargleroads, you have my deepest sympathy.
Having known your Dad my entire life has been a privilege, he was a lovely man. Our Parents were such close friends from Med School on and so many of my happy childhood memories involve all of you. How fortunate we all are to have been given such a wonderful start by Parents with character, integrity and abundant love.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

From my one memorable meeting with Dr. Hargleroad, he became Uncle Jack. Took awhile, but his graciousness and wit made everything go smoothly and made me feel a member of the family. He and I made plans, so for me his passing was painfully untimely. Thank you, Karin, but even more thanks to your Dad who made a potentially difficult time so memorable. I can only wish I had had the opportunity to have spent more time with him and learned his capacity to put others at ease. What a doctor, what a father, he must have been. I am proud to have met him. My condolences to the family and to the angels who will now have to deal with a wonderful man.

I was deeply saddened to learn about the death of my friend, Jack Hargleroad, with whom I became acquainted as a result of your mutual interest in Shippensburg history.
I hope to be able to attend his internment at Spring Hill Cemetery on Sunday.
With my deepest sympathy,

I was so moved to read of Jack's passing. Although he and I were only a year apart in age he became our first family physician, the team doctor of the football team I coached at Shippensburg State College and he and Helen remaind good friends even after their move to Penn State. Recently I'd get Skype pop ups on my desktop telling me "John Hargelroad is online" and he and I'd talk.

I teach a course that includes discussion on the sociology of medicine and each term I share with my students the very warm feeling I had as a youngster while being in the care of Dr. Hargleroad. He was such an important part of growing up in Shippensburg. I also feel certain that he saved my life a number of times. A bout of scarlet fever might have gone much worse without his bedside attention. His was a life well lived and so very many of us are forever in his debt. My condolences go out to the family and especially to my schoolmate, Karen. I wish you comfort in this very sad time.

Prayers for your families in your time of loss. I have fond memories of "Doc". Each day as I walked to school, I would pass his office and your home. Even though a very small child, I remember him making house calls to my young mother who had Rheumatic heart disease, then a Sunday evening visit to the Prince St. office as a child to be sutured up after sustaining a laceration wading in a stream, reassurances as a teenager that mononucleosis wasn't a dire diagnosis, and the entire bill for my brother's delivery being paid in Buffalo nickels...after which your Dad called him Buffalo Bill. While I was away at nursing school, I heard and was sorry to learn that he was leaving Shippensburg. He was a fine man and a good doctor!!

Jack was a great man and gave of his talents unselfishly for the betterment of our community. I spend some years with him on the hospital board, I appreciated his thoughtful wisdom and his humble attitude.
Jack was very much a traveler and had a good story to share about his many trips.
To the family, he left a wonderful legacy. Knowing Jack made my life better. May that be said about all of us.
