Lewis Joshua Morgan Jr., 83, of State College, PA went to sleep in Jesus on Thursday February 18, 2016 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Morgan, son Robert Morgan, brother Theodore Morgan, surrogate brothers Shawn Todd, Eric Todd and Anthony Todd, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, God children and friends.
The oldest of four children, Lewis was born December 30, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Louis Morgan Sr. and Casseal Brown Morgan. He attended the East New York Vocational High School in Brooklyn, New York.
In 1951 he met his lifelong love Josephine Thompson, whom he affectionately called “Phine.” In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for four years and was a Radar Specialist. In 1956 he began working as an Electronic Technician for Hazeltine Corporation. One of his biggest achievements was working on the Apollo Lunar Lander. In the 1990's he started working for Hollywood Film Co. doing electronic repair and installations and was blessed to travel to many fun and exciting places such as Disneyland, Walt Disney World, the Kennedy Space Center, India, China and Japan. In 1997 he and Josephine retired to State College, PA. He began working at Weis Markets Inc. where he was a beloved favorite of staff and patrons as well. Lewis had an endearing sense of humor, loved to make people laugh, and is affectionately remembered by all who met him.
Lewis loved photography and was especially fond of taking pictures of his wife amid nature scenes at various parks and botanical gardens. He also developed his own film. Lewis was an avid reader and had an extensive collection of books and audiobooks, but his collection consisted primarily of religious writings and bible commentaries. Lewis also loved astronomy and science fiction and was a history buff as well.
Lewis was a devout Christian. He joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church early in life, and served God in many roles such as Sabbath School Teacher, Superintendent, Elder and President of the Ushers Federation. He was a long time member of the Springfield Gardens SDA church in Springfield Gardens, NY. In Pennsylvania, he attended the State College Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He later became a Lay Pastor for the Clearfield and Brockway Seventh-Day Adventist Churches. Lewis was extremely proud of being a Lay Pastor. He considered it his crowning achievement and wanted to be remembered for his dedicated work as church Pastor.
Lewis will be missed very dearly by his wife, children, family and friends.
