Obituary of Margaret R. DeMaria

Margaret Roberta Olsen Costello DeMaria, 78, formerly of Belle Harbor, NY, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Greenhills Village, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 1, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Olsen. She had five children with her first husband, Joseph Costello. She married John DeMaria on December 21, 1974 and they enjoyed many happy years together until his passing on November 16, 2014. Her daughter, Kim, preceded her in death many years ago. Marge worked most of her life with children, teaching pre-K in Brooklyn, NY. She would often say that "little people are her favorite people". She was innately gifted in treating children with dignity, respect and love and they responded in kind. She was beloved by her students and parents alike and thoroughly enjoyed her vocation as a teacher. Marge enjoyed simple pleasures; relaxing on the beaches in Belle Harbor, NY and Naples, FL, a good meal, having a smoke and a glass of wine. She was a loving, yet "no nonsense" parent to her children, and she taught them to be fair and respectful to all people. She is survived by her four children, Michael Costello (Jessica) daughter Adrianne, Pamela Margolies (Harvey) and children Ryan, Brendan and Isabelle, Todd Costello (Marjorie) and daughters, Emily, Morgan and Anna, all of State College, PA and Laura Tokash (Andy) of Wappingers Falls, NY and her daughters, Elise and Leah, one sister, Linda Olsen-Ruscillo (Danny) of Rockaway Beach, NY, along with many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of life will be held at a future date in her hometown. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
