Obituary of Charles Holmes Zendt
Charles H. Zendt, Jr., 79, of Spring Mills, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Charles was born to Ruth H. and Charles H. Zendt, Sr., on June 14, 1937 in Lewistown.
Charles graduated from Juniata Joint High School in 1954 at the age of 16. He was a 1958 graduate from the Pennsylvania State University where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity. He served in the 112th Pennsylvania Air National Guard including an assignment in Germany.
After a career in banking that began in 1965 and included active participation with the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, he retired from Omega Bank, NA, in 2002. He continued his service to the community and his fraternity throughout his life as evidenced when he was elected to the Order of Merit, a national service award, by Lambda Chi Alpha in 1988. He continued to help others by donating his organs through Gift of Life. He continued lifelong hobbies of ice skating, golf, motorcycles, and skiing, although he sometimes replaced ice skates with roller blades and, at the age of 65, he replaced his skis with a snowboard.
He was a member of the Centre Hills Country Club, State College Elks Lodge 1600, and the Tussey Mountain Ski Club.
Charles is survived by his wife Anne Stover and her children Scott Richardson, Carrie Rishel (Ronald) and Mark Richardson (Kara), and her grandchildren Derek and Morgan Rishel and Katie Shutt. He is survived by his children Erica Zendt (Lloyd Newton), Adrienne Zendt Taylor (William Taylor, IV) and Charles H. Zendt, III, and his grandchildren Alexandra and William Taylor V and Bailee, Charli, and Skylar Zendt. He is survived by Nancy M. Zendt, the mother of his children; two sisters Sandra Wert (Thomas) and Linda Zendt, Uncle "Bun" (Wilbur) Zendt, numerous cousins, sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by younger brother, Howard H. Zendt, in 1983.
