Obituary of John Andrew Gido
John (Jack) A. Gido of Boalsburg, PA passed away after a valiant battle with cancer on May 9, 2017. Jack was born in West Hazleton PA, the son of Catherine and Andrew Gido, who, along with his sister, Geraldine Clements, preceded him in death.
Jack received a B.A. degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University in 1967 and an MBA degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968. Jack had a stellar career, 20 years of industrial management experience, including the management of productivity improvement and technology development projects at General Electric of Schenectady NY, MTI of Latham, NY and the NYS Department of Economic Development, Albany, NY.
Jack and his wife, Rosemary, followed their sons, Stephen and Jeffrey to Penn State University in 1991 where Jack became the Director of PenTAP, a technical assistance program that he proudly grew to a statewide consulting practice before becoming Penn State's Director of Economic and Workforce Development.
Retiring in 2007, Jack is fondly remembered for his honesty and hard work, and for his dedication to the people with whom he worked. Drawing on his experience in project planning, Jack authored the book, Successful Project Planning, now in its 7th edition, and considered one of the top interdisciplinary texts in the discipline.
Jack is survived by his wife, Rosemary, sons Stephen (Teresa) of Arlington, VA and Jeffrey (Wendy) of Saddle River, NJ., as well as his five beloved grandchildren—Matthew, Alex, Allison, Meghan, and Sophie, and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Pro and Dr. Christopher Yingling of the Nittany Physicians Group; Dr. Jorge Garcia of Cleveland Clinic; Dr. Nancy Dawson of Georgetown University Hospital; and Dr. Ed Baliban and the nurses and staff of the Shaner Center for their excellent care of Jack. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Juniper Village and the hospice nurses and aides of the Home Health Agency who supported Jack with their loving and compassionate care.
A private family gathering and prayer service will be held in northeastern PA with Jack's beloved uncle, Monsignor Edmund Penkala. A special celebratory website has been set up for friends and family to honor this humble and remarkable man - http://davidpassmore.wixsite.com/jackgido.
