Obituary of John Milton Kriner, Sr.
John Milton Kriner, 92, of State College, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at The Village at Penn State Atrium.
Born June 25, 1924, in Dubois, he was the son of the late John W. and Elinor Donahue Kriner. On August 18, 1957 he married Betta Hirko at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Wilkes-Barre, who survives.
Also surviving is one sister, Grace Arke of Mechanicsburg.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, John M. Kriner II; three sisters, Edna Wineberg, Edith Marie Kriner, and Ruth Lowe; a brother, Charles Kriner.
John graduated from DuBois High School in 1942. He attended DePaul University in Chicago and Penn State DuBois. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he graduated from Penn State University in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in education and administration. He received his master's degree in education in 1954 from Penn State University. John attended graduate school at the University of Connecticut and New York University. He was a secondary school administrator for the State College Area School District for approximately 30 years, retiring in July of 1987.
He was involved with various professional and personal organizations and held offices in each of them including a life long association with the Boy Scouts of America.
Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 10, 2017 in the Fireside Lounge at Grace Lutheran Church, 205 S Garner St, State College. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., at the church, with the Reverend P. Stevens Lynn officiating. A reception will follow in Miller Hall, also at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juniata Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America indicate in the memo line for the John M. Kriner II Lodge, in memory of John M. Kriner II, 9 Taylor Drive, Reedsville, PA 17084. Or Grace Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
