Obituary of Michael Stuart Blumenthal
Michael S. Blumenthal, 54, of State College, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 12, 2017. Born April 20, 1963 in Lewistown, PA, he was a son of the late Marvin and Deanna Blumenthal.
Michael graduated from Penn State University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He later earned his Juris Doctorate at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C.
After graduating, Michael worked as a Law Clerk and gained invaluable litigation experience as an Assistant State's Attorney with the Office of the State's Attorney for Prince George's County, Maryland, ultimately earning a position with the Office's Major Crimes Unit. He later opened his own law practice in the areas of Personal Injury and Criminal Law. He has served as defense council in numerous high-profile cases, testified before the State House of Delegates Judiciary Committee in reference to the development of D.N.A. databases, and tried in excess of 450 criminal trials. Michael returned home to State College in 2008 to be closer to family. In addition to practicing law, he recently started Skyward Strategic, a digital marketing firm.
Known for his sense of humor, lack of pretention and ability to ask a question one hundred different ways, Mike enjoyed life and was able to bring a cheerful perspective to those around him. His favorite past times included watching his daughter's travel softball team, Worth Prospects, Penn State football, the Baltimore Ravens, and tennis. He was a lifelong squash player and recently embraced pickleball and the community it provided. Most of all… he enjoyed being an amazing dad.
He is survived by the "light of his life," his daughter, Ashley Blumenthal; sister, Sheryl Blumenthal of Damascus; brother, Stephen Blumenthal and wife Susan of Chester Springs; and sister, Amy Blumenthal McOsker and husband Charlie of Port Matilda. Also surviving is Mike's "biggest fan" and step-mother, Eilene Blumenthal; his nine nephews and nieces: Michael, Daniel, Thomas, Lindy, Brianna, Matthew, Kyle, Wyatt and Kelly; his ex-wife and best friend, Wendy Blumenthal and beloved dog Lilli.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Nittany Lion Inn at 1 p.m. on Monday, August 21st, 2017. We welcome you to come share your fondest memories of Mike and celebrate his life. A trust fund will be created for his daughter Ashley. Memorial contributions may be made to Ashley K. Blumenthal, Attn: Amy Baker, BB&T, 1300 North Atherton Street, State College, PA 16803.
