Obituary of Cynthia Madaline Maund

Cynthia Madaline Palladino Maund went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 23, 2017. She died at her home in State College, with her husband and daughter at her side. Cindy was the daughter of the late Nunzio (Joe) Palladino and Virginia Marchetto Palladino. She was born on May 26, 1957 in Pittsburgh. Her family moved to State College in 1959. She graduated from State College Area High School in 1975, where she acted in award-winning plays and participated in many other activities. She graduated from Penn State in 1979 with a BS in Art Education. After college, she moved to the Pittsburgh area where she taught art and a number of other subjects at Assumption Catholic School in Bellevue, PA. She also worked as a picture framer and had a real estate license. On August 21, 1982 she married James (Jim) Maund, who she met at Penn State. Cindy and Jim raised sheep on a 70 acre farm in Claysville, PA, where Cindy artistically spun & wove the fiber. She was a member of the Washington County Spinners and Weavers Guild. In 1991, Cindy & Jim returned to State College, where Cindy taught after-school art classes, served as a substitute teacher in the State College Area School District, won the Leadership Award as a Girl Scout leader, and volunteered for numerous schools and organizations. She was a member of the State College Weavers Guild and the Centre Squares square dancing club. Cindy loved art, music, and nature. She was always interested in art exhibits and found beauty in the world around her. She played multiple musical instruments, including piano and hammered dulcimer, and liked playing and listening to folk music. Since childhood, one of her favorite local places to enjoy nature was Lake Perez at Stone Valley Recreation Area. She supported environmental protection initiatives, such as eliminating chemicals from everyday life. Cindy's family, friends, and a deep faith in God were most important to her. She always made life-long friends wherever she went, always had a kind word to say, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a very loving, considerate, and thoughtful daughter, wife, mother, sister, and friend. She always took the time to 'smell the roses'. She will be deeply missed. Cindy was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in State College, where she taught CCD and volunteered for many ministries, particularly enjoying Hospitality. She is survived by her husband, Jim, at home, and her daughter Laura Maund, of New York City. She is also survived by two sisters, Lisa Palladino Ghaner (Gilbert) of Spring Mills, PA, and Linda Oswald (Richard) of Somers, CT, and 5 nieces and nephews. Donations in her memory may be made to: Young People Who Care, a grass-roots ministry in Frenchville, PA (ypwcministries.org), Good Shepherd Catholic Church (goodshepherd-sc.org), The American Cancer Society (cancer.org), or a charity of the donor's choice.
