Obituary of Marian W. Weir
Marian W. Weir, age 91, died on March 15, 2018 at Holy Sprit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.
She was born October 3, 1926 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania and grew up in Saxton, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Charles W. Weaverling and Mildred (Eichelberger) Weaverling.
Marian graduated from Saxton Liberty Schools in 1944 and the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She was very proud to go on to earn both a BS and MS degree in nursing from the Pennsylvania State University, in 1974 and 1980 respectively. Marian was a member of the PSU Alumni Nursing Society and Sigma Beta Tau honor society. She was employed as a general duty and private duty nurse, as well as a school nurse in the schools of Bradford, Pennsylvania. Marian went on to become an instructor and the coordinator of the Centre County Vo-Tech School of Practical Nursing Program in Pleasant Gap, Pennsylvania from 1970 to 1988. During that time, she served a term as President of the Pennsylvania Practical Nursing Program.
Marian was a member of St Paul's United Methodist Church of State College, Pennsylvania. She served as former member and President of the Westerly Gardens Condominium Association from 1993 to 1999. In 2002, she relocated to Messiah Village in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania to be closer to family. There she served as a volunteer in the gift shop and library.
From 1947 to 1976, Marian was married to Robert C. Campbell. In 1976 she wed Robert D. Weir, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1999. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert A. Weaverling of Saxton, Pennsylvania and a daughter Linda Sanker (Joseph) of Four Lakes, Washington as well as a granddaughter, Amanda Weir.
Marian is survived by a daughter, Marjorie Callanan (John) of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, a son R. Michael Campbell (Anne) of Longwood, Florida, and a son Barry Weir (Anne) of Nokomis, Florida.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Anthony Palmieri (Kristen), Robert Sanker (Amy Nicole), Tristin D. Sanker (Jessica), Rebecca Sanker, Adam Weir (Lara), Colure Caulfield (Kevin), Cereye Campbell, Molly Callanan, Collin Dunn, Casey Dunn.
Also surviving are great grandchildren, Shane Beggs, Kylie Phouthamang, and Kieran Caulfield.
Throughout her lifetime, Marian enjoyed playing bridge as well as playing the organ and piano. She enjoyed sewing and counted cross stich, often gifting family members with the fruits of her labor. Marian was also an avid Penn State football fan.
She and her husband Bob Weir spent many winters on the west coast of Florida where they enjoyed many hours of surf fishing and time on the beach. She and Bob also cherished traveling on cruises and vacationing to warm locales, though they also loved coming home to State College.
Those close to her enjoyed her attentiveness and interest in all that they did and will always be grateful for her loving and caring ways.
Friends and family will be received at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA 16801 on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 1 until 2pm. A funeral service will follow at 2pm with Pastor Becky McGee officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
