Obituary of Ednilou Rhodes Reeder
Ednilou Rhodes Reeder, 79, of State College, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, at home.
Born October 2, 1939, in Lewistown, Ednilou was the daughter of the late Luther V. Rhodes, II and the late Dorothy Burkholder Rhodes.
She is survived by four children, Michael Reeder and his wife, Terri, of Grand Junction, CO, Allison Ashbeck and her husband, Garth, of Millersville, MD, Patrick Reeder and his wife, Renee, of Richmond, VA, and Ben Reeder and his wife, Allison, of Lancaster; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Michael Rhodes, Luther V. Rhodes, III, Charles Rhodes, Mary Null, Adelaide Ryan, Sylvan Norris, Daniel Rhodes, Stephen Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews
Ednilou received her bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1960 and her master's degree from Westminster College in education in 1977. She was a teacher and reading specialist for various schools throughout her professional career. She enjoyed teaching so much, after her retirement, she continued to substitute teach in State College and for Our Lady of Victory School. She enjoyed tutoring and was passionate about adult literacy. She also volunteered at the State College Food Bank.
Ednilou grew up in Lewistown, graduated from Penn State and spent most of her life living in Western Pennsylvania and State College. She built family and built community with her love and her laughter.
A visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm, on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Samuel Houser officiating.
Burial will be in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to State College Food Bank, 1321 S Atherton St, State College, PA 16801, in memory of Ednilou Rhodes Reeder. The family urges that the greatest action that each of you can take to honor Ednilou is to hold your families close, engage in your community and laugh.
