Obituary of Anna Carol Buffington

Anna Carol Buffington, 75, of Centre Hall, died on January 26, 2021 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA. Born in New Brighton, PA on December 13, 1945, she was the daughter of Nellie Caler Stafford and Edward F. Stafford, Sr. She graduated from New Brighton High School in 1963 and from Penn State University in 1967, majoring in Hospitality and Food Services. Following graduation, she completed a one-year internship in Administrative Dietetics at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY. On June 30, 1968, she married Dennis Buffington. In 1968, she began working as senior dietician of food services at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. In 1971, the family moved to Gainesville, Florida and she was actively involved as mother of two daughters and as volunteer for many church and school activities. Following the family move to State College in 1985, she soon began working as executive director of State College Meals on Wheels. She retired in 2014 after more than 26 years of service. She served as director of Bells of Grace at Grace Lutheran Church for many years and was involved in organizing the annual Nittany Valley Handbell Festivals. Anna Carol is survived by her husband Dennis, daughter Kristin, son-in-law Darryl, grandchildren Margaret and Daniel, and her sister Nora Wood in Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Anna Carol was preceded in death by her daughter Melanie on September 16, 2020 and by her sister Sharon Stafford Wright and her brother Edward F.
