Obituary of Mary Louise Swan

Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Swan, 80, of State College, died Monday, January 25, 2021, at home.

Born December 21, 1940, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Haberlie and Louise Benke Hoffman. On December 8, 1962 she married William C. Swan, Jr., who preceded her in death on February 13, 1999.

She is survived by one son, David Swan and his wife Tracey Lynn of Centre Hall; and one granddaughter, Margaret Louise "Maggie" Frankino. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Melinda "Mindy" Swan on December 41, 2017; and by a brother, David Edwin Hoffman in 1990.

Mary Lou earned her bachelor's degree in Social Studies and English from Gettysburg College in 1962. She taught for 30 years at the State College Jr. High and Middle School.

Mary Lou was a life member of Alpha XI Delta. She joined at Gettysburg College, and was later the faculty advisor for the sorority at Penn State University.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Graysville Cemetery, Pennsylvania Furnace, with the Reverend Scott E. Schul officiating.

Burial will be in Graysville Cemetery.
