Obituary of Richard James Bord
Richard James Bord, 84, of State College, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Hershey Medical Center.
Born March 9, 1937, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, he was the son of the late Louis and Della (Klein) Bord. Richard graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. After several years of work and a four-year tour of duty in the US Navy, he earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin—Steven's Point in 1967, and his master's degree and PhD in Sociology from the University of Iowa in 1969 and 1971, respectively. He was a Professor of Sociology and Social Psychology at Penn State University from 1971 to 2002.
The primary focus of Richard's life was his family, to whom he devoted constant time, attention and affection. His many interests and hobbies included fishing, wood working, carpentry, music, painting, hiking, photography and trips to mountains, lakes and ocean beaches. Richard was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by Karen E. (Micke) Bord, his loving wife of 55 years, and their four children: Christopher L. Bord and his wife Elizabeth of Hudson, NH, Olivia E. Leskowicz and her husband Paul of State College, Anne L. Bord of State College, and Stephen J. Bord of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and ten grandchildren Teresa, Cecilia, James, Mary, David, Gianna, John Paul, Daniel, Adam, and Julia.
Visitation will be Friday, August 27, 2021 from 1:30-2:30 pm at Our Lady of Victory Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 2:30 pm. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Father George Jakopac officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
