Mr. Griesel was my guidance counselor at Columbia high school. I was the tenth of eleven kids in my family and without the kindness, care and dedication of Mr Griesel, I NEVER would have graduated.
I never forgot his support; how much he went aboce and beyond; there simply was no one else in my life at that time who made me feel that I mattered and could and should do better.
Twenty years after I graduated, I was able to send a letter to the high school and they forwarded it to him. I wanted to let him know what a truly huge difference he had made in my life. I still have the kind letter he wrote back to me, saying of course he remembered me and he appreciated my reaching out. I was so happy to know he and his wife were traveling around working at national parks.
I hope this rememberance will make it to his family. He truly was a remarkable man and I send my condolences.
