Obituary of Donald Griesel

Donald C. Griesel, 77, of State College, died Saturday, January 7, 2012 at The Fairways at Brookline Village, State College. Born in Manhattan, NY on February 20, 1934, he was a son of the late Carl and Marie Ackermann Griesel. In June 1955, he married Joan Virginia Lindstrom, who survives. He is also survived by two children, Nancy V. Della Valle and her husband, Paul, of Verona, NJ and Karen J. Miller and her husband, Curtis, of Germany, formerly of Ohio; six grandchildren; Genine, Dominick, Dayna, Alexander, Cassandra and Griffin. Donald was a 1955 graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in Health and Physical Education and received his Masters from Penn State University in Health and Physical Education in 1956. He was a retired high school Guidance Counselor, previously employed by Columbia High School in South Orange-Maplewood, New Jersey. Donald served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the Military Police. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Loyalty Lodge #33 Free and Accepted Masons, Union, NJ, Bronx Historical Society, American Philatelic Society, and was a track and field official. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the Grace Lutheran Church at 205 South Garner Street, State College. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Reverend P. Stevens Lynn officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund at 205 South Garner Street, State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
