Obituary of Anna Margaret Peters
Anna Margaret "Mickey" Peters – 91, formerly of Penna. Furnace, PA, died peacefully, December 24, 2021 at Wynwood House, Boalsburg, PA.
Born November 30, 1930 on her family's farm on Tadpole Road, Penna. Furnace, she was the daughter of Ruth (Parsons) and Isaac G. Harpster. She was married to Clarence N. "Pete" Peters on June 9, 1951, who preceded her in death on October 7, 1988.
She is survived by 5 children, Ruth Ann, married to Richard Carmichael, Springfield, TN; William, married to Jana Penatzer, Penna. Furnace; Norman R., married to Jessica Boone, Warriors Mark; Steven C., married to Lorie Wilson, Warriors Mark; and Kenneth A. (Joyce Martin), Penna. Furnace. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, Kitty (Brandon) of Lewisburg, WV; George (Claire) of State College; Robert (Amanda) of Sandy Ridge; Nicholas (Mary) of Julian; Isabella of Warriors Mark; Samuel (Jessica) of Tampa, FL; Danielle (Josh) of Spring Mills; and Claire (Ryan) of Warriors Mark; as well as 7 great-grandchildren; Georgia, Ren, Josie, Rylee, Gracie, Tommy, and Aubrey. Anna Margaret is survived by 2 sister-in-laws, Dorothy Harpster of Peeples Valley, AZ and Doris Peters of Elizabethtown, and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Robert, Helen, Paul, Betty, and Lee. She was the last of her generation in the Isaac & Ruth Harpster lineage.
Anna Margaret was a graduate of State College Area High School (Fairmont Avenue), Class of 1948. Following graduation, she was employed by State College Borough as Borough Secretary. After she and her husband purchased a dairy farm in 1954, she became a full-time farm wife and mother. She then worked as a Secretary in Penn State's Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Finance for 20 years until her retirement in 1991.
She was a life-long and active member of the Gatesburg Lutheran Church, Warriors Mark, where she served as Sunday School teacher, sang in the Choir, and served on the Altar Guild. Anna Margaret was a member of Baileyville Grange #1991 for over 75 years and served on the Centre County Grange Fair Board for decades. She was an avid supporter of Centre County 4-H Program, serving as a 4-H Leader for over 50 years. She was a 2014 Inductee to the National 4-H Hall of Fame in Washington, DC. She also served her community as a member of the Ferguson Township Planning Commission and was elected to Township Supervisor. She was a member of American Legion #245, Pine Grove Mills VFW Post #5825, Lady Shriners (Jaffa) #2019, State College Elks #1600, and the Penn State Stockmen's Club.
She thoroughly enjoyed sewing, cooking, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, canning, making pickles, relishes and her famous potato salad. She cherished spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hosting get-togethers at the farm for her family, friends and innumerable adopted Penn State "kiddos" brought her great pleasure.
Friends will be received from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College.
Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Gatesburg Lutheran Church with Pastor Susan Williamson officiating.
Burial will be at the Gatesburg Cemetery.
