Obituary of Patricia J. Hess

Patricia J. Hess, 85, of State College, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. She was born on June 5, 1936 in Boalsburg, the second of five children born to Philip A. and Edna G. M. (Crust) Mark.

Pat was a 1954 graduate of State College Area High School. On June 30, 1954, she married John E. "Jack" Hess, and they lived on the family dairy farm. Pat helped her husband on the farm until he started to work at Penn State in 1968. Over the years, she also worked for the Bell Telephone Company and Meyer Dairy. Above all, Pat's passion in life was being a wonderful mother to her children. She loved helping them with school projects and attending their sporting events and concerts. Pat also enjoyed history, poetry, and music; she was a long time member of the Zion Lutheran Church choir. Everyone who met Pat knew that she had a kind and caring soul.

Preceding Pat in death were her husband Jack in 2007, her son Mark (Sherene) in 2013, and brothers Herbie, Philip Daniel (Betzy) and Paul (Carol). She is survived by her daughter Lee Ann Candor (Jim) of State College, her sister Cathy DePalma (Nick) of State College, and her daughter-in-law Sherene Hess of Indiana, PA. She also is survived by four wonderful grandsons Adam, Logan, Grant and Gage Hess as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Joan Pecht of State College.

To ensure the health and safety of all, an outdoor, drive-in funeral service will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church parking area in Boalsburg. The service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022 with Pastor Brent Book officiating.
