I was so sad to hear about Jon's passing. I will always remember his absolutely wonderful laugh, and how much he loved Kat. May his loved ones find peace & comfort as they grieve.

I met Jon when he started dating my friend, Kat. We would all get together whenever I returned to State College for a visit or when Jon and Kat would be in the Harrisburg area for a conference. Jon was indeed a devoted public servant but he was also a devoted husband. I knew I could depend on him to look after my friend. I've been out of touch in recent years but that hasn't diminished the fondness I felt for Jon or feel for Kat. I light this candle to keep his light shining.

I met Jon when I was a freshman at Susquehanna. He soon became a great friend and fraternal Big Brother at Phi Sigma Kappa. He gave me the nickname “Josie” which only he used when contacting me. Jon and I remained friends throughout the years. I recently learned of Jon’s passing. I am sure his friends, colleagues, and loved ones will remember Jon fondly forever.

From all of us at the Centre Regional Planning Agency, we express our sincere condolences to Jon's wife and family. Jon served on the Centre Regional Planning Commission for 10 years and was passionate about planning and zoning in the Centre Region. Jon was always very well-prepared for meetings, provided thoughtful and articulate commentary, and was very supportive of the CRPA staff. In addition, Jon served on the Centre County Metropolitan Planning Organization Coordinating Committee for eight years and helped secure funding for many contentious but needed transportation projects in Centre County. Jon was passionate about transportation safety and ensuring that residents could travel around the county efficiently and effectively. Jon advocated for multi-modes of transportation so that residents who traveled the county by foot or bike could do so safely and with ease. Jon was a true public servant, and he has left a lasting impact on visitors, residents, and all of his colleagues here in Centre County. To Jon's family and friends, may your tender memories soften your grief.

My wife Cheryl and I are so sad to hear about Jon's passing. We enjoyed our annual visits with Jon and his wife Kat at the Arts Festival. I will always remember Jon's bright smile, his robust laugh, and his love of State College and Centre County.

Jon Eich is unforgettable to me, although we never met in person, and our last telephone conversation was more than 25 years ago. Jon was a wonderful internship supervisor for Penn State sociology students. He created internships that were serious learning opportunities for students who were always very enthusiastic about their experience working with Jon. What makes him unforgettable to me is the time he learned a student was taking the bus to his office so instead Jon offered to drive the student both ways - and did so for an entire semester. I was astonished by his kindness. I know he accomplished a lot in his life, but in my interactions with him, what stays with me was what an incredibly thoughtful and kind man he was. I am sorry for your loss.

As a colleague of Jon’s for over 33 years, I can say that he was one of the most dedicated public servants that I ever knew. Jon was a passionate planning professional who served not only his community, but many other communities through his role as an educator to professional and volunteer planners in Pennsylvania. As an administrator, elected official, and volunteer board member, Jon was known for being well-educated about current and future issues, always prepared for discussions at meetings, and very supportive of professional staff. Jon has left a positive, lasting impact on those who live, visit, or pass through Centre County. Rest peacefully Jon, you can be proud of your legacy. Condolences to his wife, family, friends, and colleagues.
