Obituary of Janna K. Maranas
Janna K. Maranas, age 57, of State College, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on November 3, 2022.
Janna was born on August 11, 1965 to Mimi and the late Kenneth Mosbaugh in Portland, Oregon.
Janna graduated from Bellevue High where she excelled in flute and vocal performance. She started her college work as a Music major, but later switched to Chemical Engineering and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly, Pomona. She continued her studies at Princeton University where she received her PhD from the department of Chemical Engineering. Her thesis work pioneered the application of simulation methods and thermodynamic concepts in the analysis of the behavior of polymer blends. Soon after her graduation she started her faculty career in the department of Chemical Engineering at Penn State University reaching the rank of Professor. Janna was a dedicated teacher, tireless student mentor, and great faculty colleague. She impacted the lives of countless students currently holding positions in academia and industry.
Janna is survived by her daughters, Cassandra J. Maranas and Christina D. Maranas, her mother, Mimi Mosbaugh, sister, Rachel (Brian) Tuck and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life event will be scheduled at a later date.
