Obituary of Alfred Nelson Nestor

Alfred Nelson Nestor, age 92, of Pleasant Gap passed away at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville on Sunday, January 15, 2023. He was born in Cherry Run WV on March 28, 1930 to Amasa & Hattie (Williams) Nestor & graduated from Parsons High School in 1948.

He married Altha Swaim, who survives, & raised Sharon (Glenn, deceased) Landau of Shamokin, Nancy (Daryl) Doty of Spring Mills, Joseph Nestor of Lamar, & Janet Bosco of Bellefonte. He had seven grandchildren: Steve (Melissa) Landau of Sunbury; Julie Landau of Shamokin; Michael Doty of Bellefonte; Caitlin (Geoff) Brown of Indianapolis IN; Brian Nestor of Lamar; Sara Nestor of Lewisburg; & Kristi (Ethan) Griffin of Scott AFB IL. He had eight great-grandchildren: Evangeline, Morgan, & Rowan Landau; Lily Brown; Everleigh Nestor; & Lincoln, Makinli, & Ellington Griffin.

He married Betty Dixon who survives. Step-children include Debbie (Rodney) Romig of Bellefonte & Daniel (Karen) Dixon of Spring Mills. Step-grandchildren are Steve (Tina) Shehan of Mechanicsburg; Julie (Justin) Evey of Lamar; Nicole (Corby) Shunk of Centre Hall; Shannon (Nate) Arney of Centre Hall; & Emily (Derek) Neidigh of Spring Mills. Step-great-grandchildren include Kyle & Maura Shehan; Preston, Emma, & Sulley Evey; Baylor & Colton Shunk; Riley Arney; & Gavin & Karli Neidigh.

He is survived by one sister, Darlene Swaim of Culpeper VA; step-sisters, Shirley (Bob) Dively of State College & Joy (Don) Foster of West Decatur; brother-in-law Ralph (Jean) McClarren of West Decatur; several sisters-in-law, & many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Dolores Sanders, Gerald Nestor, Homer Nestor, Edna Selders, Alva Nestor, Leota Shaffer, Lora Nestor, & Willis Williams.

He served in the US Army Signal Corp from 1952-1954, stationed in Germany. Before & after his military time, he spent years with various employers. In 1960, he started employment with Corning Glass Works in Martinsburg WV, earning many certificates for coursework, retiring in 1987. The company requested his consulting abilities as a retiree, & he spent additional Corning time in China, India, & Mexico.

He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte where, there & churches prior, he served as a Sunday School teacher; Lay Leader; on many committees; & as a choir member. He served on the Porter Township Zoning Board for many years.

He thoroughly enjoyed time with his family; children, calling them 'little people'; being a gentleman farmer; making & selling copper wire trees; trains, travel anywhere, ice cream, & milkshakes; helping others, being extremely generous; his favorite hymn 'Count Your Blessings'

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.

An additional visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m., on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte.

Funeral service will follow at 11a.m., at the church, with Pastor Andy Morgan officiating.

Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte PA 16823 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
