Obituary of Ronald "Boonie" Cornell Helton
Ronald "Boonie" Cornell Helton, 62, of State College, departed from this Earth to be with the lord on Monday, March 27, 2023, in his home.
Ronald was born July 8, 1960, in Huntingdon, PA. He was the youngest son of the late John M. Helton and Mary Jane Helton of State College PA, He is survived by his son, Jacob Cornell Helton; his mother Mary Jane Helton; three older brothers, John R. Helton and his wife, Nora, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada; Robert N. Helton of State College and Morris E. Helton and his wife, Kim, of Harrisburg; three sisters, Carol J. Ahmed and her husband, Omar; Vicki A. Edwards and her husband, Kevin, both of State College, and Ruth "Denna" A. Gibbs of Mt. Union. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, John M. Helton; two brothers, Charles R. Helton, Claude G. Helton; one sister, Martha A. Helton and a nephew Jackie L. Hunter Jr.
Ronald graduated from Mt. Union Area High School in 1979. There he played football and wrestled. He continued his academic and athletic pursuits at Lock Haven University, playing football and earning a BS in Psychology where he graduated in 1983.
A skilled carpenter, Ronald was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America for nearly 30 years and he remained a member until his retirement in 2022. One major project he was proud to be a part of was the construction of Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center.
Anyone who knew Ronald also knew that his son, Jacob, was the pride and joy of his life. From the day he was born, Ronald could not have been a prouder father. He wanted only the best for him and embraced opportunities to share life experiences with him. As a dedicated servant of the Lord, he attended Assembly Of God Church in State College every Sunday. Ronald was an extremely loving and a compassionate man. He loved making everyone smile and laugh, especially his young nieces and nephews. Ronald deeply enjoyed cars. In his free time, he could often be found working on and selling them. He enjoyed attending car shows as well. Ronald was also an excellent cook. He enjoyed watching sports but his favorite was football. His favorite teams were Penn State and The Steelers.
Having touched the lives of numerous individuals he was, and forever will be, loved and missed by his family and his many friends.
Visitation will be 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Thursday, April 6, 2023, at State College Assembly of God, 2201 University Dr, State College. The funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 am with Rev. Steve Silliman officiating. He will be buried at Pine Hall Cemetery beside his brother Claude George Helton.
