I never told him but Joe was one of my idols growing up. As a young kid I couldn’t wait for those Baileyville Sportsman club meetings because I knew Joe would be there in uniform representing the Game Commission. And he did it with class and humility because that’s who he was….a humble class act and a real gentleman. I was fortunate to be able to follow in Joe’s footsteps, partly because of him. During my career as a Deputy for Joe then as a Conservation Officer myself, many times, when faced with a difficult decision, I would think to myself, what would Joe do? The answer was always laced with a sense of fairness, and a genuine plan to leave the violator feeling like he was treated with respect and dignity. My deepest condolences to his family. Rest in peace Joe.

I will never forget Joe Wiker for his kindness to me when he was in training at the Ross Leffler School of Conservation. When on a weekend leave at home in Monessen, I contacted him for a meeting. He took personal time from his short leave to meet and speak with me concerning my own interest in attending the Pennsylvania Game Commission training school. He encouraged me further and bolstered my interest enough for me to continue my pursuit toward being a career game warden for Pennsylvania. Partly from his time and effort spent during that short meeting he graciously helped encouraged me to continue to strive toward my goal to an eventual success in 1965, when I entered the Ross Leffler School of Conservation and began a career lasting over thirty-two years. Our paths only rarely crossed on the job, but I'll never forget the help Joe unselfishly gave me. Thank you Joe and goodbye, my friend. Rest In Peace. My sincere deepest condolences to Joe's Family.
