Maureen taught in Room 2A and I taught in Room 2B. I was blessed to be Maureen's grade partner for twenty-three years. We shared laughter and sorrow but most of all friendship. We both loved teaching second grade! Our students were still very innocent and eager to learn. We both especially enjoyed helping our students to prepare for their First Holy Communion. We knew what a precious gift from God the Eucharist is and prayed that they would always treasure God's union with them. Maureen is now united with God in heaven. She is fulfilled, joyful, and at peace.

I raised three sons who attended OLV. All three of my sons had Mrs. Swanson in second grade. They loved her and she was wonderful. I am sorry to hear about your loss. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Mrs. Swanson was my second grade teacher. I was always having some kind of problem...such as passing out from the heat or one spectacular incident where I threw up during Mass. She handled my issues with grace and humor, without ever making me feel bad. She let us be children and never let us feel what was probably some understandable frustration. Alzheimer's is a cruel disease and I extend my deepest sympathies to her family. I was not at all surprised to read that her caring nature endured and that she was a comfort to her neighbors at Arden Courts. Thank you, Mrs. Swanson and rest well in heaven.

I was privileged and honored to work with "Mrs. Swanson" at OLV! I looked forward to her bringing her classes to my gym class each week just to hear her quick wit...I loved her sense of humor and loved the way she interacted with the kids. What a treasure...I have nothing but wonderful memories of her! I'm sorry for your loss yet I cheer you on as this walk is one way to keep her memory alive. Thank you and I will also send prayers your way.

Maureen was one of our American cousins. In her younger years, Maureen came to Canada to visit the extended families of her parents, Vera and Leo. I remember Maureen as a kind, friendly and loving person. Several years ago, I mentioned to her that she was always so nice to me when I was little. Maureen laughed and said, “Oh, I was just faking it!” She had that wonderful Irish wit. Maureen loved her family and her career as a teacher. She was a loving daughter who took care of her mom during her final years. She always spoke fondly of her brother and sister. Their bond was strong even though many miles separated them. Rest in Peace Maureen.
