Obituary of Maureen Swanson
Maureen A. Swanson, 81, passed away peacefully with her children and granddog by her side on June 9, 2023, at Arden Courts of Susquehanna. Early that morning, Maureen ended her struggle with Alzheimer's and was delivered to heaven to be reunited with the love of her life.
Maureen was born Jan. 13, 1942, to Vera and Michael Leo Lynch in Rochester, NY. After high school, Maureen attended and graduated from Nazareth College with a bachelor's degree in education.
Maureen married Allan T. Swanson in 1967 and raised three children, Kelly, Ted and Shawn. Maureen taught second grade at Our Lady of Victory School for 35 years. Throughout her life, former students and parents of students would stop her to tell her how much they loved her. On one occasion, a former parent saw Maureen and her daughter Kelly at the park, and asked her to wait a moment. He went home to bring back his son and grandson, both of whom were former students of Maureen.
Maureen enjoyed taking trips with her sister Rita to California to visit their brother Jerry.
Maureen continued to serve others even as her disease progressed. She was known to read to other residents at Arden Courts. Residents would come sit on her bed while she would read to them. She also provided comfort to the dying. She would instinctively know to sit by their side and hold their hand and stroke their face.
Maureen was predeceased by her mother, Vera Lynch; her father, Michael Lynch; and her husband, Allan T. Swanson. She is survived by her sister, Rita Lynch; brother Jerry Lynch; and children, Kelly, Ted and Shawn (Kimberly) Swanson and granddogs Jules and Murphy.
Much gratitude to the nurses and staff at Arden Courts and Promedica Hospice for their excellent care and kindness that they provided to Maureen.
Visitation will be held at Koch Funeral Home on Monday, June 12 from 5-7 p.m. Services will be held at Our Lady of Victory on Tuesday, June 13 at 9 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mama Swanson team for the Alzheimer's Awareness Walk at http:///bit.ly/3NpcS1L. A mail-in donation form is also available.
