Obituary of David "Curly" George Rhoades
David "Curly" George Rhoades, 91, of State College, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at home.
Born August 1, 1931, in Coalport, he was the son of the late Paul Wesley and late Elizabeth Bond Rhoades. On September 22, 1951 he married Shirley Gamber, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, David R. Rhoades and his wife, Linda, of Mechanicsburg and Donald R. Rhoades and his wife, Penelope, of State College; one sister, Donna McCutcheon of Cheltenham, MD; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn E. Zimmerman and her husband, Andrew and Erin R. Rhoades. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings.
He was a 1949 graduate of Nanty-Glo High School. He attended The Pennsylvania State University. David served in the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
Prior to his retirement, he was a Barber in State College for 35 years, most of those as proprietor of the Campus Barber Shop and the Lion Barber Shop.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for 60 years. He served a s a volunteer for the Boalsburg Military Museum for over 70 years. He was also an avid crossword puzzle solver.
Visitation will be from 10 until 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home.
Committal will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA at 2:30pm on July 7, 2023.
