Dear Ann,
I just saw a notice of Cecil's death in the Carleton Voice. I'm very sorry for your losing him, and it left me feeling sad and heavy. Cecil was one of the very bright parts of my experience at Carleton. His wit, humor, irreverence, and friendship were important to me. I remember very well how inseparable the two of you became during those years.
I feel sad and foolish for not keeping in touch, thinking that the opportunity for reconnecting would always be there. I have thought so often of talking, thinking, joking with him in a dorm room (Musser, Burton), of some crazy pranks and exploits involving the Arb, a turkey, canoeing in the icy April water in northern Wisconsin. Given my cognitive limitations, I was puzzled and amazed at his being so good at math.
I'm now a mostly-retired child psychiatrist in Maine. You may remember meeting my wife, Anna. We live in a small town outside Portland.
I hope you're doing as well as possible.

Ann, I’m very sorry for your loss. Cecil had a great mind for the patterns of Scottish Country Dancing and felt the joy of precision among dancers moving in unison. I hope the best memories fill your heart.

Cecil was such a sweet, positive, and humorous spirit! His cheerful face often appeared in front of me. The last time I saw him, he was weak but still smiling. It had been a great joy to be around him!
