Obituary of Nancy H. Nixon

Nancy H. Nixon, 76, of State College, died Wednesday, October 18, 2023, peacefully at home.

Born July 7, 1947, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Mary Dyer Henderson. On December 21, 1968 she married Robert J. Nixon of State College, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Annie Nixon and her husband, Carob Arnold, of Alna, ME, Liam Nixon and his wife, Lisa Mallen, of Wayne; four siblings, Mary Gasdick and her husband, Dan, of Bloomsburg, Patricia Fuller of Exeter, CA, Robert Henderson of Pittsboro, NC, and Margaret Henderson of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Meghan, Benjamin, Alexander and Adam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and David Henderson.

Nancy was a 1965 graduate of St. Francis High School, Pittsburgh. In 1969 she received a Bachelor's degree from Clarion University in Elementary Education. She retired after 25 years as a H & R Block tax advisor, and then volunteered for VITA – the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in Bellefonte.

An avid reader of mystery novels, Nancy enjoyed sewing, baking, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Forever an educator, she spent countless hours helping others learn to read, improve math skills, and develop good studying habits. A tireless worker, she selflessly extended her time to those she loved.

Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m., on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
